Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) has tremendous effectiveness. People learn how to identify and change thinking, feelings, and actions such that their lives feel happier. This is a directive therapy where the therapist is actively engaged with the client not only listening but teaching. CBT teaches us that the way we perceive events affects the way we feel and act. This is a technique that was developed in the 1960s and from which many modern therapy techniques began.

I have been using CBT as my primary counseling approach for 21 years and find that this method helps produce relief from problems quickly. When individuals seek therapy CBT provides a sense of hope. Combined with approaches such as Strength-Based and Solution-Focused, individuals further develop abilities to manage previously difficult situations. CBT is used in treating trauma, self-injurious behaviors, addiction, depression, anxiety, school phobia, and various other mental health related issues.
